Baby Sleeping

Joel slept through til 5am this morning he hasn't had a night like that for so long. The past three weeks I have been getting up 2-3 times in the night which has made me feel exhausted maybe I've been feeling it more cause I've been getting pretty stressed with Ollie's behaviour which you can read about in previous posts so with that and not feeling I'm getting a breather. I'm also eating more rubbish food as a comfort see Need To Binge post.

Anyway he fell asleep at 9pm downstairs, I was going to give him his last feed of milk but he obviously didn't need it. I did give him more food (not milk) at dinner time as he seemed to want it as every time I stopped he whimpered.

8 hours straight was brilliant, great shame I stayed up to watch big brother - what a fool.

Sleeping

Joel seems to have a better sleeping pattern at the moment with the odd unpredictable night but he tends to fall into a deeper sleep between 10-11pm then often wakes between 2-2.45am and mostly he will stay in his Moses basket during this time. After this first wake up it can then be two hourly wake ups so fingers crossed as time goes on it will last a little longer as from 6am he tends to wake up properly which I find too early.

Ollie tends to go to bed between 8-8.30pm then can wake between 8-9am but again we also have the odd unpredictable nights where he wakes up once or twice through the night and wakes up around 7am in the morning.

I think my ideal would be 8pm to 8am but that's never going to happen with both at the same time. It's mad really as I'm always tired but I still tend to go to bed around 11-11.30pm so I miss a chunk of sleep I could have but I blame that on the hubby as he stays up until then.

Lazy Sunday

Ollie and daddy sleeping
Most days we wait for Ollie to wake up before we start our day which was 8.30am today then I do the normal mummy routine of getting breakfast for everyone and play a little with Ollie as well as feeding Joel, but none of us got dressed until midday today even daddy and now everyone but me is having a nap and I'm the one who gets less sleep how does that work.
I just can't seem to fall asleep because my neighbours have decided to put crappy music on that is far too loud which just makes me angry so I thought I'd rant on a post......oh I hate having inconsiderate neighbours and paper thin walls you just never have any peace. Now is the perfect opportunity to get some sleep as BOTH terrors are asleep which never ever happens typical.

Joel sleeping
I left this post earlier as I spoke too soon and both woke at the same time and both as grumpy as each other.

I remember Sundays in my twenties I used to get up in the afternoon after a late night before and just laze about with no responsibility oh to have a day like that again. It'll be years until that will happen again :(

Week 6

In the past week we have had little smiles and Joel seems to want to lift his head for long periods either when holding him or when he is lying down he just wants to see what is going on around him. He is also staring at colourful toys and following with his eyes when we move them (so proud).

Today he turned 6 weeks old and gave me the biggest smile which just filled me with happiness it's so strange what simple things a little one can do to brighten up your day. I keep trying to get him to do it again so I can take a photo but its not happening.

The last two nights Joel has slept 5 hours straight which has been amazing and then he seems to wake every 2 hours until 8am. The odd day and especially early evenings he wants to feed every hour. The longest he goes without food is if I go out walking with him in a sling then it can stretch to 3-4 hours before a feed.

We shall see on Monday if he has put on any weight which I'm sure he has. From birth he was 8lb 15oz then at 4 weeks he shot up to 10lb 14.5oz.
He's growing so quickly he has now grown out of his first size sleep suits.

One Month Old

Joel is now exactly a month old I can't believe how quickly the time has gone.
That first day he was born I thought just maybe he would be a quieter, calmer and possibly easier baby than Ollie but over the last four weeks I have learnt that's not the case. After just two days Joel showed the true him with a very shouty cry, not letting me sleep with constant feeding (every 1-2hours mostly). After 5 days he rolled from his front to back which makes us think he could reach his milestones early like Ollie did (trouble ahead) Ollie could walk at 11 months which I felt was too early.

Four weeks on it has been impossible to put him down for long periods of time in a Moses basket or chair, I've tried leaving him to cry it out in the hope he would settle himself but it doesn't seem to happen and his cry is pretty annoying as it is so loud. The best method so far has been placing him in his chair and rocking it, giving a dummy and wrapping a blanket around him but again it doesn't tend to last longer that 30 minutes.
Any advice would be much appreciated on getting newborns to settle in a Moses basket.

The last couple of days he has cried a lot more because he has a stuffy nose which is understandable but you get to a point and think what do I do to stop him and o far it's been feeding him which I thought would make it more difficult as don't babies breathe through there noses.

Dreaming while pregnant

I had a very weird dream last night, baby was moving in my belly a lot then I could see a hand clearly then a foot then his / her face protruded out. I could actually hold the baby which was a little freaky, it was like baby wanted out but not in the normal way.

It went on I think I was at a work place not my real work though and a midwife came to see me who took blood but didn't have a room to examine me. I didn't sleep long enough to know what happened.

Maybe this means baby is ready to come out or maybe not who knows. I have had some strange dreams during this pregnancy some baby related others not, but recently sleep has been so rare I'm surprised I actually had a dream at all.

Only 1 week and 5 days until due date.

Week 37

Wow week 37 and oh my I feel it, starting yesterday I've had lower back pain which is making it impossible to move around, for three nights in a row I have not slept very well if at all as I feel so uncomfortable plus the thought of the birth ahead is scaring me, every twitch I think it's the start, I know it's going to happen but it's the waiting of when it will.

I'm too scared now to venture out on my own, I don't remember feeling this way in my first pregnancy but I don't think I found it as painful to walk about and the weight of my belly is overwhelming at times it forces me to sit.

I am ready for the baby to come now as I want my body back as I hate having the restrictions on what I can do. I now know how old people feel when they struggle to walk, bend or just don't have the energy to do every day things same for larger size people how can they be happy to struggle to even get dressed, I know pregnancy is very different but it certainly gives you a taste of what others have to put up with day after day.

Why Does It Have To Be So Difficult

Little man is being very difficult at the moment, in the day he moans constantly which is so draining and at night he is so active it can be 11pm before we actually get him to sleep. I just don't know what to do half the time.
We have always had problems with him sleeping but at one years old you'd think that would be behind us. He is so unpredictable, for a few weeks he started to go to bed by 8.30-9pm which was amazing as we actually had a couple hours of mummy and daddy wind down time and he sometimes slept through until 7.30-8am which was a dream but since he's been Ill at easter we are lucky to get him in his cot by 10pm it's so stressful especially as you get rudely awaken by either a crying Ollie or noisy neighbours at stupid times in the morning.

I'm exhausted especially now I'm back at work. When I get home mummy mode has to switch on but in the evenings and at weekends I just want to sleep but I can't so I end up being very grouchy and snappy. I hope things change as I don't know how I can carry on like this.

I never imagined that being a mummy would be so difficult.
